Icelandic Lava Tubes

Icelandic lava tubes are a neat natural phenomenum.  You can find more info about lava tubes here.

They are caves that have been made from past volcanic eruptions, as you can imagine there are MANY throughout Iceland.  They vary in size (as you'll see in a later post, one is ginormous!) and make for great stops on day trips to check out.

This one is acutallly located on the way to The Blue Lagoon and was close to the base in Keflavik.  It was our first lava tube experiance.

Look at the landscape, isn't it amazing?!  I have never seen anything like this before!  Imagine the vikings having to walk across this?  Wild!

The guys trying to rebuild the rock pilar the boys accidently knocked down.  There are many rock piles in Iceland some are belived to be created by elves and others are said to be markers of the early settlers path.
The entrance of the lava tube, somene has neatly stacked rocks around it to make a nice little rock doorway.
