EDG

On June 4th, 2010 I had my second EDG procedure. This time they were able to dilate my VERY narrow esophagus. It was only 9 mm AFTER the 1st scope procedure dilated it just by going down it...normal ones are 20 mm.

The procedure itself wasn't bad, the IV was the worst part...as I do not like needles but thankfully this time they let Mr. B stay with me while they put the IV in.

After the dilation procedure the Dr. told us she was able to successfully dilate my esophagus to 18 mm, which is considered to be normal (Normal is 18-20 mm). That being said I had a pretty rough recovery. She expected only 1-2 days of pain/recovery issues but it really took a full week before I was able to eat solid foods without any pain.

BUT now that we're 2 months post-procedure I'm happy to report that it has been Life CHANGING! I no longer choke on foods, I can eat whatever I want! And I don't have to make sure I have something to drink right beside me before eating anything...that in itself has been very freeing. And I've even been able to swallow pills that would have gotten lodged before! I'm so glad that I finally got it diagnosed and now fixed!!

Since my biopsy tested positive for reflux (which is still VERY weird to me as I have NO symptoms!) I have to take medication daily in order to try to prevent it from reoccurring. Now that swallowing pills is no longer an anxiety producing issue I'm okay with it. Sure I'd like to not take meds everyday but then again I like being able to swallow too! ;) Sometimes these procedures have to be re-done every 5-10 years, so now I'm just enjoying this new found freedom while I have it.

Just thought I should FINALLY (I know, I know) update everyone :)
