Bubby ER

Well my dad hit the nail on the head when he told us we'd better make a test run to the nearest hospital from our new house so we'd know how to find it.  The only surprise was it wasn't needed for the child we'd would've anticipated needing it, Boo, it was needed for Bubby!  It's pretty safe to say that we're going to be familiar with all the local ER's at this rate!  2 down, 3 more to go!

On Sat Bubby suddenly got chills and spiked a fever around 12:45 pm and had a huge headache, which with his allergies is common.  So I gave him Tylenol and hoped it would help.  While it did bring the fever down it didn't help the headache and by 6 pm he was complaining of his neck being very painful to move.  That's when I got concerned.  After talking with the on-call DR she wanted us to take him to the local ER for testing.

This was the start of the long night for Bubby and Mr. B.  They left the house around 8:30 pm and didn't arrive back home until 3 AM Sunday morning!  While this ER got a better rating from Mr. B it was still a slow process.  They didn't even see and DR for 2 hours and then they found out that they needed to start and IV, get bloodwork, chest x-rays, CAT scan, throat & nose swab, and depending on the results a spinal tap.

Throughout Mr. B was able to text me on our cell phones and keep me updated, at 12:45 am I talked to him and found that Bubbys white count was really high, double what it should be so a spinal tap was required.  I felt sick to my stomach!  I was SO thankful that it was Mr. B there with him and not me!  Although Bubby surprised everyone during the spinal tap by not crying or moving...he did way better than I would've!

After all the testing we were able to confirm that he did NOT have meningitis, Praise God!  With that being said I felt bad that he had to endure all the testing and not have something, but I'm glad they were proactive and wanted to make sure since it's such a serious illness.  He did get sent home with antibiotics and steroids and was required to lay flat on his back all day.

As you can see it's NEVER a dull moment around here and I really don't expect any anytime soon...that way I can be surprised when it actually happens!
