This is the House with Maintenance that Never Ends
yes, it goes on and on my friends! Some people started working on it not knowing what it was, and they will continue working forever just because...This the House with Maintenance that never ends....LOL!!So the master bathroom is 'finished' per se. The floor is fixed, although I am not sure they ever found where the water was coming from...kinda makes ya wonder but heck if we're here in 10 yrs when the problem arises again than we have some serious problems, LOL!
Let's take a little look at the timeline:
Guy came on a Monday to start, told me he'd be done by Wednesday. Few hours later told me it would be Friday.
Friday he determined that he would not be done until Monday, and floor people would come Tues.
Monday, a week from when he started, he finishes and caulks tub. He tells us to wait until Tues afternoon to use the shower/tub, we wait until after 9 pm on Tues.
Tuesday the floor people come and put in the new vinyl, I am not home as I am subbing which I later find out will be for an unpaid day. I get home and find that there is a large lump leading into the bathroom, you need to wear shoes to enter the bathroom, super, nothing like having to find shoes in the middle of the night to use the potty.
Wednesday morning we realize that all the caulking is literally pouring out of the tub, it also turns out to be a horrendous day were all that can go wrong does, I sigh and can't wait to leave for TX. Mr. B calls in the floor & tub caulking. They come out and hammer down the floor, so it is now fixed.
Thursday the shower guy comes back and re-caulks the shower/tub, tells Mr. B to wait until Sat afternoon to use is. He waits until Sunday morning just to be 'safe.'
Sunday I arrive home to a finally 'finished' bathroom.
There were a few casualties with the project but 1) I did not do them and 2) it's really not 'my' tub so I haven't let them worry me too much. Although I DO have to say that it's things like these that make me miss Iceland and Japan so much! Their work ethic was to always do their best...even if it was picking up garbage...here in the US it's so sad to see people's mindset of 'lets do the bare minimum in order to get finished/paid' sigh.
Wow, I never knew I wanted a textured toilet water supply line, who knew it was the 'in' thing?! |
Chipped porcelain |
and a nice little dent...wonder if these have something to do with the industrial sized fan he set in there? |
This morning (Thurs) I find that the caulking is coming out again! I mean really?! So now we'll have to have it re-done again and not have use of the shower yet again, ugh! But it could be worse right?! So I keep telling myself that repeatedly :)
Humm, it almost looks like it's smiling at me.... |
Also while I was gone there was a fatality with the downstairs vinyl. Something about a run-in with a vacuum..who knows Mr. B was in charge as I was in TX. Which resulted in these:
Our 'holey' guest bathroom downstairs |
And another hole in the kitchen |
The maintenance guy came out Monday and tells Mr. B there are 2 options. Number 1 is that they can do nothing and leave the holes there. Wow, is that even an option?! How did they know that I'd LOVE to have these holes in the floor while I'm hosting people in our home for small group? And just in case your wondering there is sarcasm and eye rolling going along with that statement, LOL!
Number 2 is that they can replace the vinyl in the whole downstairs but we will have to move everything off it. Well since there really is no other option, we chose option 2! It will look like the bathroom vinyl upstairs, so it will be much nicer and as a plus won't have 10+ years of gunk in all the cracks and corners that I've been disgustedly fighting since we moved it.
So what does move everything mean? Indeed just that. The fridge, dining room table, washer/dryer, ect. Should be good times. The maintenance will have to move the stove since it's gas and they need to turn it off, plus it wont' hurt them to do something, it's a private vendor that is doing the vinyl.
I am a bit concerned...not about the inconvenience of moving stuff, we've learned to just roll with the punches by now, but that they won't be done by next Sunday when we are supposed to have our first small group meeting. It's only 'supposed' to take a day...but I think we all know what that means...a day could = a week or more. Guess we'll see what happens. As of right now we don't even have a date for them to come do it, so I'm sure it'll be the most inconvenient day next week ;p
Heavily relying on this verse to prevent over-weariness ;)
"but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."
