Living Room Pics

Here are the pics of the finished living room.  We had to add the blinds ourselves, bought and installed by Mr. B himself :)  The room is huge so it looks a bit bare, but with our hopes of going back overseas we have no intention of trying to fill it (or the house!) up!

Bubby's 8th Birthday!

Happy 8th Birthday Bubby!

Wow to think the last birthday Bubby celebrated in Alabama he was 2 years old!  Here are some pics from today.  We ordered him a digital camcorder/camera that will be here Monday.  Him and Boo are always asking to use ours to make funny videos, so this should keep them entertained!

Black Friday!

After much debate about if we really wanted to get up super early and brave the crowds or now we decided what the heck, and if it was outrageous we'd come back home and order online!

We got up at 4:30 am and headed out, thankfully the kids were all snoozing and we were able to leave them with Bobbers.  Our 1st stop was Walmart, of the 4 items on our list of things we wanted we ended up with 2 scores and a couple other added items.  Our major score was the TV Mr. B has been dying to buy for the living room.  It's our Christmas present for us for the house.  It's a 42" RCA which left us moving the 32" to our room.

The other scores were Christmas presents so they won't be disclosed until a later date due to the number of family members who frequent the blog :)

We then headed to Best Buy and left there empty handed, we decided the lines were too much of a hassle and we'd order online, which we did when we got home.

Then we headed to Target to pick up a few last minute birthday items for Bubby who's B-day is tomorrow, and Boo who's B-day is Christmas Eve.  Target was madhouse near the toys and electronics, but it could've been worse I guess.

Overall it was worth the early morning and we were home by 7 am.  I'm sure I'll be hitting the sack early tonight!  Included are pics of the new TV, stay tuned for living room pics....

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow it's so weird to be in AL for Thanksgiving, I never thought we'd be here ever again, let alone for the holidays!  Despite all the mishaps that have occurred we have MANY things to be Thankful for this year.

We'll be spending Thanksgiving with family & friends, as we have friends still here in AL that we met when we first lived here in 1999.  My sister and niece are also here to spend the holidays with us.

Yesterday I made 3 batches of homemade rolls, my friend D will be so proud!  It's her recipe and we LOVE the rolls.  Mr. B made our main Holiday staple...Chocolate Pudding Pies!

I think Mr. B and I will attempt the Black Friday sales tomorrow...our first in 5 years, so we'll see how that goes!

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

Rain, Rain, Go Away...My closet is not the place to play! So we had another interesting experience today, imagine that right?

I walked into my closet to get something earlier today and found the carpet was wet. As I was contemplating why Mr. B was so wet

when he was standing in the closet, that he soaked the floor, a drop of water fell on my head! I looked up and found water

dripping from the light fixture in the closet. I called Bobbers in to check it out. She entered a bit hesitantly after this mornings

event (see further down) and screamed and jumped as a drop fell on her head. We determined that sure enough the celing/light

was leaking water. We called the Builder who came out to check it, neither he or the plumber could find a reason why it was

leaking. He's having the roofers come out tomorrow to check the roof. And we're supposed to call him back if it happens again.

Just one more 'fun' experience in our crazy lives lately, as I've been told my one of my friends we've been providing some

Laugh Like Crazy moments for them, so I'm sure glad this is entertaining LOL!!

Warning, H if your reading...you'd better stop now!

As for this morning I went in to do laundry I started to lift the clothes into the washer and looked down to see something like this:

wolf spider Pictures, Images and Photos

I SCREAMED!!! Which is always helpful and effective, LOL!  I made Boo come to the rescue and kill it for me!  I quickly called Mr. B and told  him we needed the house sprayed for bugs ASAP! I found a local pest company and called them and they came and sprayed this afternoon!  I swear the spider was soooo stinking HUGE!!

Assembly Fun...or Not!

I had forgotten how 'fun' things can be when assembling projects.  We've already assembled several items like shelves, 3 bar stools, and a computer chair but today's took the cake!

I bought a nice metal shoe rack/bench/ coat rack from a Home Decor store online because we don't wear shoes in the house and I didn't want to use the tacky blue rack from Japan.  So I found a bargain (surprise, surprise) and had it delivered...oh the joys of being able to use FedEx again!

I arrived today while I was picking up the kids from school and when I got back I found my sister already starting to assemble it.  So I check the kids school work and jumped in on the 'fun'.  This consisted of trying to assemble the crazy wire racks that didn't want to match up screw holes and it also included disassembling it several times!

Finally 2 hours later and a few loose bolts I said to heck with it and left it for Mr. B to finish!  This has got to be one of the WORST project as the instructions were JUNK!  They guy who wrote them should be FIRED!  On top of that it resulted in several injuries such as scratches and bruises!  This will NOT be going with us on our next move as I will NOT put it together again.  If you ever see one of these on sale RUN the other way...there is a reason it's on sale!

Ok just had to vent, I'm so sick of it I don't even want to look at it right now let alone use it!  Guess I'd better hurry up and cover it in coats so I don't have to see it!

I've included a picture of the 'fun' project.

How Many?

And both side extends way past the doors and what you can see
This huge pile is on top of the 18 gallon storage bucket

How many pieces of clothing should a child have?  How many pieces of clothing do 'normal' people buy their kids?  I can hear my friends Y, C, & D chuckling as they picture my kids closets!

I went on a major purging spree of the boys clothing tonight in an effort to get closer to finishing their room.  I ended up with 30+ tops for each boy Plus bottoms that are in an 18 gallon tub and those are just the clothes to sell/get rid of!

This still leaves the each of the boys with 50+ shirts, Boo has fewer pants as he's hit a growth spurt and just moved up to a new size but Bubby has about 15 pairs.  How wild is that?

I can say that all were bought on sale as I'm a bargain freak but all are name brand because they stay in better condition and I can resell them.  I also don't keep Boo's clothes for Bubby as I can' stand to look at the clothes for too long, LOL!

So what is the normal amount of shirts and pants per kid?  I just googled it and found this from the Living on a Dime website:

School Age
(including teen boys, if your teens complain about the clothes, make them responsible for them, including paying for the extras that they want.)

3-4 pairs of jeans or school pants
7-9 school shirts
1-2 pairs dress pants
3-4 dress shirts
1-2 casual dressy outfits
2-3 pajamas
1 pair school shoes
1 pair causal shoes or 1 pair of shoes for dirty work
1 pair dress shoes

Looks like I'm Way over!  Surprise, Surprise!  LOL!!!

Really only 7 shirts?  That seems insane, they'd be wearing the same shirt over and over...hummm

I'll add pics tomorrow because when I went up to take them tonight the camera died, I don't even want to touch on the shoe issue...if they are new still in the box they they don't count right ;)  LOL!post signature

1st Room Offically Done!

Our 1st room that we officially completed is the Formal Dining room, although there are some pictures in the corner that need to be hung in other parts of the house.  I am also missing my other set of curtains that I want to put up, but that will depend on if we can find them or not!

Here are some pics, they are a bit dark as they were taken at night with no natural lighting to help out.

Sick and Tired of Boxes!

Remember all these boxes in this pic from our old house?  Well I'm sick and tired of looking at, unpacking and moving boxes!  Things are still moving along and thankfully there is an end in sight, which Mr. B says will be by Sunday...later than he'd like.

I had to interrupt unpacking today to take my sis on a trip to the flea markets.  There is nothing like them back in Idaho so it was a new experience for her.  We scored one of those studio sleeper chairs for Little Miss T, although we REALLY need a new cover and don't know how to find one!  We also scored a TV for $20!

Then we had to cut our shopping trip short to pick up Bea from school as she wasn't feeling well.  She was coughing really hard (this has been going on since Tues) and didn't eat lunch.  We got her home, gave her some meds, fed her and she was good to go.  Although she's still coughing a lot...hopefully it'll clear up soon!

Off to the warm bed that I crawled out of to type this post as my eyes were already closing when Mr. B reminded me I had slacked off today...oops!!!

Where, Oh Where can all my stuff go?!

The worst part about moving is unpacking and trying to find a spot for everything!  Here we are in this HUGE house yet it doesn't have enough adequate storage for our 'stuff.'  Or maybe I'm just not storing the stuff right???  Mr. B bought a great shelving set the other day which really helped but our bathroom is awkward with storage issues.  Thankfully today I scored a great deal and for $72 I got 2 dressers and a baker's rack!  That'll help with some of our storage issues.

On another note I made my first big shopping trip to the commissary today.  I decided to make the 15 min drive to see if fighting off the retirees for groceries would be worth it in savings, and after today it appears like it is.  I even saved $18.82 with coupons!  The worst part was it took me 2 hours (!) because there were way too many choices!  I mean seriously do we really need 20 types of bread and 15 types of salad to choose from?  It almost seems ridiculous.

I've included a pic of Bea in her Indian shirt she made at school.

Laundry, Laundry, and MORE Laundry!

Well things are starting to find their places around here and we're FINALLY able to do some laundry...which is a whole story in itself!

We had our new washer & dryer (seen in previous post) on Sat when we got the house key, the guys who delivered it did a quick test run with it and left.  We stayed Sat & Sun in TLF so we didn't use it.  We saved all our laundry to wash here at the house on Monday with the new appliances.

Monday arrives and Mr. B shows up early (7 am) to meet the gas man and throws in the 1st load of laundry, which has the majority of the boys jeans in it as they really needed jeans washed.  I arrive at a little after 8 am and realize it's not a pretty situation, Mr. B is irked because the washer froze up in mid cycle and has locked our clothes INSIDE!

He finds the manual and tries everything to get it undone, nothing works!  He calls Best Buy where we bought it from (as soon as they open at 10 am) and the manager says he'll call him back, 6 hours later we haven't heard from him and call Best Buy back.  Surprise, Surprise that manager is no longer on shift and another manager tells him he'll call him back.  An hour or so later he calls back with a 1-800 number to call.

Mr. B calls the number and finds out that the earliest someone can come is Wed (today) meaning out clothes were locked wet in the washer from Mon AM to Wed AM!  The repairman came today and got the door opened but told Mr. B it would take 3-5 days to order the part!  You gotta be kidding me!  We're already in such desperate need for the boys jeans that I hand washed them and used the dryer.  Anyone who has hand washed jeans knows just how fun it is trying to get them wrung out!

We decide there is NO WAY we can wait 3-5 more days for clean laundry and call Best Buy AGAIN and tell them we want a solution today!  We play another round of Best Buy managers not getting right back to us, thankfully the middle-woman was great and did call us several times!  They end up calling the guy who sold us the set (I guess he's the head of that dept.) and said he would be calling us to resolve it.  He calls Mr. B and tells him that he is heading to Georgia (3 hours away) to go get us a new one.

This evening around 5 pm he PERSONALLY showed up and delivered our new washer, and we are washing clothes like crazy!  I have to say we were so irritated with Best Buy we were ready to just return the set and go to Lowes and get one today.  I was dead set on NOT shopping at Best Buy again and not spending the $$$ that we had planned to spend there for the upcoming holidays.  Best Buy is lucky for this employee and he single-handily saved our business for the store.  This is probably the most we've seen anyone go above and beyond for customer service since we've returned to the states.

I tell ya we can't get a dull week around here......

Boo Hand Update

Boo went back to the Physical Therapist today (He'll see the DR tomorrow) and his fingers are looking great.  He had 20% more movement in both his fingers than last week.  He's continuing to do his excercises and I'm continuing to write his homework...nothing like being in 7th grade again, LOL!

Here is a pic of his hand today, the swelling is almost gone!

Our Stuff Has Arrived!!!

Yipee Pictures, Images and Photos

Our stuff has arrived and its our 1st night in the house! We are so excited to be out of TLF! As you can imagine stuff is everywhere, so I'm only taking a few minutes to post this before hitting the boxes again.

I did want to share a story of our 'adventure' today...as you know we always have to have some kind of adventure! Mr. B and I had already discussed placement of furniture before the movers arrived so we would know where to direct them. We were disappointed to find out that our entertainment center wouldn't fit up the stairs, but then came the HUGE letdown...the movers were unable to get the Big Screen TV upstairs! We were so disappointed as we'd planned to use it in the Bonus/Game room for the Wii, PS2, ect. After the movers left we decided we weren't going to take 'It's not going to work' for an answer and do it ourselves!

So Mr. B removed our bedroom door (which was causing maneuvering issues) and me and Bobbers (my sis) got ready for the 'adventure' to start. It literally took all 3 of us and a few bruised body parts but we DID it and now it's in the Bonus room...so HA you silly movers!

The other interesting aspect was finding out that when the movers moved their truck they literally tore our mailbox off the post and drove away leaving it lying helplessly on the ground! They'll be back tomorrow to finish putting a few things together and you'd better believe they'll be held accountable for the negligent act of mailbox slaughtering!

Things are moving along nicely and hopefully I can get some pics of the house up in the next few days and some of the local friends over for a visit soon!
